Development

Work has begun on the Ardrahan Community Field Development scheme. The contractor, Seamus Coleman, has moved in this week. They are currently stripping back the top soil at the back of, and adjacent to, the small pitch. They will shortly commence excavation of soil at the horseshoe wood area in preparation for the all weather pitch foundation and ball wall. While this work is in progress, all parents are asked to read the important safety notice that was issued by Ardrahan GAA Club recently. You will find details of it here.

Below are some photos of the progress to date.

Please keep checking our website for updates as work progresses on site.

THE PROPOSED PLAN
• A second full size playing pitch. (Phase 1)
• A 850 M walkway around the perimeter for social walkers. (Phase 2)
• A 200+ Car Park. (Phase 3)
• New Clubhouse and Changing facility. (Phase 4)
• A small secure playground. (Phase 5)
• An Astroturf surface. (Phase 6)

Ardrahan’s current facility was opened on 12th May 1985. Over the years it has served us extremely well. In its day, it was the envy of a lot of Clubs in South Galway and while our grounds remain popular, it is under extreme pressure to contain all of the demands placed on it. In 1985, we had a senior, junior, minor, Under-21 and a fledgling juvenile section. Today we still have all our hurling teams and a very vibrant juvenile club promoting hurling and football and a very successful camogie club fielding teams in all age groups.

OUR DEVELOPMENT PLANS:
Needless to say, we urgently need to increase playing space, provide more and safer car parking space and improve our Clubhouse and changing facilities In late November, Ardrahan signed a contract to purchase an extra 5.9 acres at a cost of €225,000. This is the first step in a phased approach to put a modern day sports campus in place - a facility that will sustain us for the next thirty years.
